Description

An olive oil tasting in Ostuni with the owner of a traditional masseria: walk among ancient trees, see two historic mills and taste three organic oils with local snacks.

For an olive oil tasting in Ostuni with a difference, the host is the owner of a traditional masseria, who shows you his land himself. The hour begins with a stroll through the olive trees, from young ones to ancient giants, a few of them, the owner says, planted more than 2,000 years ago by soldiers back from the Punic Wars.

Inside, two mills tell the story of oil in the area: a 16th-century hypogeum mill, cut below ground, and a 19th-century epigean mill above it. Seeing them one after the other shows the traditional way of producing extra-virgin oil.

The visit ends at the table, with three organic oils to compare alongside olives, tarallini and fried broad beans.

  • Walk among millenary olive trees
  • The hypogeum oil mill and the epigean mill
  • Three organic oils with local specialties

The visit lasts about an hour. Transfer is not included, so plan how to reach the farm. It suits anyone who wants to taste Apulian oil and hear the story of the countryside.
