Description

The Monument to the Fallen of World War I is located in Santa Teresa Square.
Commissioned by the municipal administration, the Brindisi sculptor Edgardo Simone was chosen, who used white Carrara marble.

The first decision regarding the location of the monument was the square at the Brindisi station, which met with opposition from the sculptor because it did not enhance the importance of the monument. It was then decided to place it in Engelberto Dionisi Square, on the Brindisi waterfront, where it was inaugurated on November 22, 1931, by King Vittorio Emanuele III. Once again, however, Simone did not approve of the choice, and in 1938, the monument was dismantled and moved again to find a temporary position in Victory Square.

Finally, in 1940, it was permanently placed in Santa Teresa Square.
