Description
Palazzo Montenegro was built in the second half of the 17th century by the Montenegro family. Originally traders from Montenegro they moved to Brindisi towards the end of the 17th century, changing their name from Petrovich to Montenegro. The Baroque building is distinguished by the Central balcony richly decorated with ornamental masks and figures, while the main door is framed by two columns. The palace today is the prefect’s residence. It has hosted many important historical figures over the centuries, such as the King of Two Sicilie Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who stayed here during a visit to the city, Aragonese castle and Gioacchino Murat in 1813.
